Roll of Honour

This special page is where we commemorate the efforts of individuals who had contributed as guest writers for the BrainyLaw blog, who had relentlessly shared their knowledge and passion for the law with fellow readers.

1) Fork Yow Leong

Listed in the history books of BrainyLaw is our first ever guest writer, Mr.Fork Yow Leong. He is an experienced and seasoned moot judge in the world’s mooting competition scene. Having previously enjoyed a long stint serving as a senior lecturer at several private colleges, he is a dedicated and passionate mentor who had made major impacts on the lives of law graduates. As the picture may already hint, Mr. Fork was a Legal Advisor for ICRC Malaysia for 8 years from 2007 until 2015. An active human rights activist, he had contributed a lot to the cause through his works.

2) Carmen Lai

The second to be immortalised in the history books of BrainyLaw is Carmen Lai, an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya currently practicing at Koh Jeremiah Dipendra Law, who is no stranger among her peers and the BAR. Carmen practices a wide range of laws and is known for her meticulous work habits. A hardworking individual and dedicated lawyer, Carmen had contributed tremendously to the firms and clients she advocated for, as well as the pupils reading her articles at BrainyLaw.

3) Jean Siow

WhatsApp Image 2018-10-05 at 10.25.45 AM

Jean Siow can sometimes see her at the streets rallying for what is best for the country, or sharing her thoughts on BrainyLaw. With an unparalleled passion for Criminal Law, Jean is the first in BrainyLaw history to write an article relating to real life criminal issues and practice. Anyone who has seen Jean in action at Court and behind closed doors, knows that she can handle the worst of cases and worked out wonders from them. Jean is currently an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya, specializing in Criminal Law at Ren & Associates. If Weera ever gets framed or entangled with Criminal matters one day, please call Jean to save Weera’s ass.

4) Shammie Wong

FB_IMG_1554572721583.jpg

Shammie is the first friend Weera had when they first stepped into Law School together. Both of them had come a long way, from their early years in KDU, separating at after degree, and reuniting back in practice. Needless to say, Weera knows very well even back then that Shammie would be at where she is now, doing what she does best. At the time of writing, Shammie is proud Legal Associate at ZICO Law. Perhaps the most intelligent female writers out there (only BrainyLaw’s Mei Xian and Yap Mei Yan comes next to Weera’s mind in terms of writing excellence). Be that as it may, it is always a joy when Shammie contributes her works to us all at BrainyLaw.

5) Daphne Rethual

FB_IMG_1554570341427.jpg

Weera does not know where to begin when he speaks of Daphne. Daphne is perhaps the strongest woman that Weera knows, and perhaps the one that deep down knows him the best.

To the moon, sun, and now back to the realms of practice. That’s probably how Weera describes his memories with Daphne. Weera always knew that Daphne is both a strong and delicate soul, and those qualities had served her well in achieving her goal of becoming an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.

Daphne was also supposedly BrainyLaw’s 10th member back then before its inception. Daphne (should) knows that she will always have a special place in Weera’s heart, as the two had been through the worst and best of times together, from their first year in KDU, all the way till today.

6) Loh Boon

FB_IMG_1554572647343.jpg

Loh Boon is a common face at the Courts of KL, Shah Alam, Bangi, police stations, you name it. She had been quietly garnering experiences here and there, till one point Weera invites her over to be BrainyLaw’s guest writer. Behind the scenes of serving under a sole prop firm, Loh Boon is a hard working individual who serves the legal fraternity and her superiors well. Weera also frequently bumps into her at the Courts.

Perhaps few months to come, Loh Boon will be invited again to BrainyLaw, not as a guest writer, but a permanent member.

7) Francis Anthony

FB_IMG_1554570422705.jpg

If there is ever a problem in Conveyancing matters, this lad is the go-to person that Weera will reach for. The two first met each other at the interview session at a firm in Bangsar, but since had never looked back. Moving onwards, both are practicing in different fields, one in Litigation and Francis in Conveyancing. If there would be anyone to help with BrainyLaw’s Kimberly Teoh in writing articles on Conveyancing matters, it would definitely be this man, who coincidentally wears the same Yonex shirt with Hong Yi at our very first Badminton session.

Pro tip: Francis is great at Badminton.

8) Amanda Kong

FB_IMG_1554569762927.jpg

Amanda had come a long way in her journey to becoming an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. Her tenacity, grit and strength had overcome whatever disabilities that came her way.

Weera first met Amanda in Court while Amanda attends her first ever CM and fiddled the CMS Machine for the very first time. At that point also, Weera knew that Amanda will be completing the mission that she started, and true enough, Amanda made national headlines and emerged as a true inspiration for all, achieving her dreams of becoming an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.

9) Najwa

IMG-20190323-WA0005.jpg

Najwa usually sits behind Weera during CLP classes back during their days in BAC (though she never notices!) The two had only really talked to each other when they were both affirming their pupillage forms at the KL Court. A helpful and nice person in life, Najwa does not lack the writing abilities and passion to share her journey with the fellow brothers and sisters of the Bar. Najwa completed her pupilage at Kevin & Co, while also coping well with her duties as a strong mother. Above is her picture with no other than Siti Kasim herself.

10) Crystal Tan

FB_IMG_1554569632143.jpg

Crystal is the first female friend Weera had back then in ATC (Is it because there isn’t much females in ATC? Certainly not). Crystal have extensive experience working under the tutelage of multiple prominent litigation firms. The ATC gang comprising of inter-alia Crystal and BrainyLaw’s Phoon and Weera had all gone on to be practitioners till today. Looking back at the days whereby we hang out in the Middle Malay Food shop (MM), a lot has changed since, especially in terms of maturity. At the time of writing, Crystal is serving as Legal Associate at Messrs Ewe Chong & Khoo.

11) Joshua Wu

10868291_615037015286493_4317168175985422163_n

Joshua and Weera reached out to each other on a rather unexpected Sunday morning. Then came the most spontaneous article ever published at BrainyLaw. At the time of writing, Joshua is under the wings of Messrs Sreenevasan, Joshua Wu immortalized his name here with his contribution of the article on Judicial Dynamism. Joshua’s article is one of it’s own kind here at BrainyLaw.

12) Rajsurian Pillai

13) Jonathan Khoo

Through a word of mouth, Jonathan was first introduced to Brainylaw and he was convinced that he could help contribute a few ideas to the platform to bridge the gap between the legal profession and law students with some fun and entertaining content.

Holding a black-belt in karate, Jonathan is direct and concise with his points and bold when striving for his goals. Paired with a love of writing, he has been published on 4 different websites serving different audiences both within and outside the legal fraternity.

As an alumnus of the University of Liverpool’s School of Law and Social Justice, the pursuit of legal education has always cultivated Jonathan’s interest. This can be further seen by the fact that he is currently studying for the Bar Professional Training Course at City University London and is a student member of Lincoln’s Inn.

Having taken an avid interest in content creation after following the exploits of various personalities, Jonathan strives to expand his reach and to help bridge the gap between the legal fraternity and the layman.
